PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS |
- Brong Ahafo is the second largest region in Ghana with a land area of 39,558 km2
- The region has 22 districts and MOFA has a district directorate in every one of them.
- The regional capital, Sunyani, in addition to the Municipal directorate, is also home to the Regional Directorate of Agriculture.
- Vegetation: forest, transitional and savanna, roughly representing the southern, middle and northern parts of the region respectively

- Region’s labour force: 819,190 out of which the 566,066 (69.1%) is from the agricultural sector. 51.1% males and 48.9% females.

- Forest Reserves: located at Nkoranza, Digya, Amama, Yaya, Tain 1 & 2 etc Water falls: located at Kintampo and Yabraso

LAND USE |
Vast tracts of arable land, forestry, inland fisheries and clay deposits are the main endowments.
- Arable land area: 23,734 km2 (60% of land area)
- Land under cultivation: 9,746 km2 (46% of arable land area)
- Major agricultural activities:
- Crop production – accounts for 70% of regional agric. output
- Livestock production (Atebubu, Kintampo N/S, Pru)
- Inland fishing/Aquaculture (Yeji, Sunyani, Dormaa, Tano N/S)

LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION &MARKETING:
Poultry:
- Largest concentration in Dormaa with slightly over 3.5m layers and broilers (2008).
- Berekum, Sunyani, Techiman also involved.
- Grasscutter:
- Current regional stock size – 5,000
- Over 600 farmers trained with GTZ assistance/BARGFA out of which 206 are in business (2008).
- Regional grasscutter farmers Association in place.
- Ruminants: Northern parts of the region, particularly Kintampo, Atebubu, Wenchi, Techiman. Techiman has a popular livestock market and MOFA has a goat breeding station at Kintampo and a Disease Investigation Lab. at Techiman

FISH PRODUCTION |
| Inland fisheries: mainly at Yeji, where there is a fish market, and its environs. Total fish landings – 15, 731,693kg(2004) and 5,924,743(as at June 2005)
Aquaculture: Concentrated in Sunyani, Dormaa (has a fingerling production facility), Berekum, Techiman Asutifi and Asunafo N/S districts. |

Potentials
- Land available (23,734km2 ) for crop and livestock
- Several rivers and water bodies available for irrigation and livestock
- Potential exists in the hatcheries and feed mills industry in the poultry concentrated areas of the region e.g Dormaa.
- Vegetable processing, especially processing of tomato, pepper and okro. Techiman, Tano, Atebubu, Jaman, Dormaa
- Production of industrial starch, glue and alcohol from cassava, throughout the region.
- Potential exists for the creation of livestock markets, which can be modelled on the Techiman market
- Poultry production is becoming increasingly popular in all the districts – notably Dormaa, Sunyani, Techiman and Kintampo.
- Cottage industries for the production of palm oil, palm kernel oil, gari, earthenware, Asunafo N, Tano N/S, Techiman
- production and processing of Cashew (Beverage, nuts and other prod.) Tain, Jaman North and South, Wenchi and Techiman.
