Objectives of position
- To ensure the initiation and formulation of appropriate policies and programs for the development of agricultural engineering.
- To ensure the co-ordination monitoring and implementation of programs and projects related to agricultural engineering in the districts and regions;
- To provide technical back-stopping to the regions and districts in matters relating to agricultural engineering.
- To advise the Chief Director on all matter related to the agricultural engineering.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with relevant engineering faculties and agencies (including the private sector) in the development and use of appropriate agricultural equipment, machinery and tools;
- Promote the design, fabrication and use of appropriate machinery and equipment for post-harvest management;
- Promote appropriate mechanization practices for soil and water conservation;
- Collaborate with private sector for the establishment of mechanization centres and rural technical information;
- Develop acceptable standards applicable for both imported and locally produced machinery and equipment, implements and tools in collaboration with standard Board, GRATIS, IIR of CSIR and other agencies;
- Ensure the timely preparation of annual plans and programs and prepare annual budgets for the directorate; and
- Collate and prepare bi-annual national reports on agricultural engineering development;
- Manage MoFA fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment
- Develop and manage database on rural agricultural engineering technologies for advisory services.
