To ensure the initiation and formulation of appropriate policies and programs for the development of agricultural engineering.
To ensure the co-ordination monitoring and implementation of programs and projects related to agricultural engineering in the districts and regions;
To provide technical back-stopping to the regions and districts in matters relating to agricultural engineering.
To advise the Chief Director on all matter related to the agricultural engineering.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with relevant engineering faculties and agencies (including the private sector) in the development and use of appropriate agricultural equipment, machinery and tools;
Promote the design, fabrication and use of appropriate machinery and equipment for post-harvest management;
Promote appropriate mechanization practices for soil and water conservation;
Collaborate with private sector for the establishment of mechanization centres and rural technical information;
Develop acceptable standards applicable for both imported and locally produced machinery and equipment, implements and tools in collaboration with standard Board, GRATIS, IIR of CSIR and other agencies;
Ensure the timely preparation of annual plans and programs and prepare annual budgets for the directorate; and
Collate and prepare bi-annual national reports on agricultural engineering development;
Manage MoFA fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment
Develop and manage database on rural agricultural engineering technologies for advisory services.
