Objectives of the position
- To initiate and formulate policies, programs, laws for effective and efficient plant protection and regulatory service delivery;
- To give technical backstopping to the regions and districts
- To co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of policies in respect of plant protection and regulatory services.
- Facilitate international trade in agricultural commodities through effective phytosanitary regulations;
- To advise the Chief Director on all matters relating to plant protection and regulatory services.

Responsibilities
- Provide information on appropriate technology for plant protection;
- Update and enforce national phyto-sanitary regulations within the sub-regional and international standards;
- Collaborate with with appropriate MOFA Directorates and other relevant institutions in the development and dissemination of technologies on plant protection and regulation;
- Establish and enforce standards for seed and planting material production and certification in collaboration with relevant agencies;
- Promote integrated pest management and the safe use of agricultural chemicals in collaboration with relevant institutions;
- Ensure the enforcement of regulations on the importation of pesticides in collaboration with the EPA and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC); and other relevant institutions/agencies;
- Establish early warning system on crop pest and diseases of economic importance;
- Promote activities for meeting international standards on import and export;
- Liaise with regional and international Plant Protection Agencies; and
- Collate and prepare national reports on PPRS activities.
