STATISTICS RESEARCH AND INFORMATION
Position Title: Director, Research, Statistics, Public Relations and Information
Immediate superior : Chief Director
Immediate subordinates: Deputy Director, Information Deputy Director, Production Statistics Deputy Director Marketing Statistics
Associates: Other Directors
Objectives of position To initiate and formulate relevant policies/programs for creation of timely, accurate and relevant agricultural statistical database to support decision making; To conduct agricultural surveys and censuses covering major agricultural commodities; To give technical backstopping to the regions and districts To co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate information programs in collaboration with the directorate of PBCM&E. To advise the Chief Director on all matters relating to the directorate
Responsibilities Formulate policies and laws which will lead to smooth running of the directorate; Design and conduct national annual sample surveys of crops and livestock; Collaborate with other institutions like CSIR to conduct research into the issues affecting food and agriculture; Prepare quarterly and annual food situational reports; Liaise with regions and districts to ensure the effective collection of data on prices of commodities; Provide and disseminate basic agricultural information to the public and private institutions as well as individuals. Submit periodic reports on current research findings and results relevant to the responsibilities of the Ministry and advise on practical methods of application of these
