The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) is set to receive a Grant from African Development Bank (AfDB) to implement “Regional Resilient Rice Value Chains Development Project in West Africa” (REWARD).
REWARD Project will be implemented by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) aimed at addressing disruptions in food systems in Ghana.
The overall goal of REWARD is to increase rice production in order to contribute to industrialization, youth employment and food security. The specific objectives of the project are to:
· Increase rice productivity and production thus increased incomes for farmers, particularly women and young people;
· Increase the resilience and adaptive capacities of rice farms and production systems; and
· Increase the marketing and intra-regional trade of rice.
The Project will cover generally the Savannah Ecological Zone of Ghana and specifically focus on 7 Districts (Mion, Tamale Metro, Savelugu, Mamprugu Moagduri, Nandom, Wa Municipal, West Gonja within four (4) administrative regions thus Northern, Upper West, North-East and Savannah Regions, that have the potential for rice production.
